The Role of Parliament
A system that truly represents our best interests?
Many people believe that the parliamentary system that we have is not allowing the concerns of the electorate to be heard, we basically have a two party system and have to vote for one party or another.
Whilst we are very fortunate to live in a democracy, the present system does not allow for true representation of the people. We need to get back to where it all started, with members of parliament truly representing the will of the people they have been voted in by.
I propose the following as an idea/overview for how this could work
Every member of Parliament should be independent of party politics and truly represent the will of the electorate.
There would be large expert think tanks on all the major issues, who would come up with policies for the present and future needs of the country. These think tanks would be non political.
The policies put forward by the think tanks, would be voted on by the independent members elected by their constituents, who would not be allowed to collude with other elected members or form alliances or parties.
There would be a powerful Federal ICAC overseeing the independence of the Independents.
This would be a much more democratic way in which the electorate would feel that they have a say in their future. The majority view would prevail.
