Preserving Critical Ecosystems

Koala in gum tree

A symptomatic relationship

We have an issue in our area with the dramatic decline in Koala numbers. A number of dedicated community members work tirelessly to preserve Koala habitat and numbers. Despite this, all indicators suggest the local Koala population is running out of time.

Why?

If we look at the history of the area and the decline in Koala numbers, it can be directly related to human population growth and all that brings with it. The local Council are aware of the problems, but still allow further development in Koala sensitive areas.

Natural Environment

Environmental assessments

In my opinion, what is happening to the Koalas, is symptomatic of what is happening to the environment. All councils throughout Australia need to carry out an environmental assessment, to determine what the local environment can support and then put a cap on the population in that council area.

We must address world population sustainability in order to preserve critical ecosystems and habitats for future generations.
